Chuzenji Onsen

A hot spring resort located on the northern shore of Lake Chuzenji

Located on the northern shore of Lake Chuzenji, which was created by the eruption of Mount Nantai, this hot spring resort has been popular as a summer resort since ancient times.

The source of the hot spring is Nikko Yumoto Onsen, which began to be drawn in 1951. The quality of the spring water in Nikko Yumoto Onsen is hydrogen sulfide spring water, which is extremely hot at about 78°C (158°F), but reaches a temperature suitable for bathing during the approximately 12-kilometer trip.

Chuzenji Onsen Town has about 10 hotels, ryokan, and minshuku in the vicinity of Futaarasan Shrine’s Chugu Shrine.

The area around Lake Chuzenji is also used as a base for sightseeing, and the northeast shore of the lake has a sightseeing boat pier, boat rentals, and souvenir stores lining the lakeside, creating a tourist hot spring atmosphere.

The Chuzenji Onsen Bus Terminal of Tobu Bus Nikko is also located here and is used as a base for sightseeing in Oku-Nikko, and Kegon Falls is located in the eastern part of the lake.

Train / Bus: Approximately 45 minutes from Nikko Station on the JR Nikko Line or Tobu Nikko Station on the Tobu Nikko Line by Tobu Bus bound for Yumoto Onsen, alight at Chuzenji Onsen Station.

Car: 25 minutes from the Kiyotaki IC on the Nikko Utsunomiya Road
