Travel back in time through a barrier gate! After passing through the barrier gate, you will be in the city of Edo (present-day Tokyo).
This is a cultural park where you can experience the culture of the Edo period. Once you step into the entrance gate, you will be greeted by samurai warriors and town girls in a realistic reproduction of the streets of Oedo’s Ya-hyakuhachi-machi, a large area lined with barrier roads, post towns, merchant districts, ninja villages, and samurai residences.
Visitors can experience as if they have stepped back in time to the Edo period. There are many shows throughout the park to enjoy, including a powerful action show at the Grand Ninja Theater.
Visitors can also change into Edo period costumes and take a walk around the park as if they were Edo people. Visitors can also dress up in Edo period costumes and walk around as Edo people, interacting with the people of the Edo period and feeling the life of Edo.
Another popular event for children is the “Edo Job Experience,” a free participatory event where visitors can enjoy pretending to be a ninja, a member of the Shinsengumi (the new shogunate), a trapper, or other characters.
At each event pavilion, a lively story about the history of the Edo period is told.
There are seven theaters where visitors can enjoy ninja shows and oiran (courtesans) theatrical performances, and visitors can learn about history and culture at the exhibition halls.
The Edo Lifestyle and Culture Heritage Museum - Modern Edo-tech Museum exhibits beautiful everyday items made by craftsmen that have been handed down since the Edo period.
These techniques are still alive in our daily lives today, and the museum introduces the “Spirits of Edo” and the “Inheritance of Techniques” in a corridor style, along with masterpieces of artisans.
Visitors can also enjoy meals that can only be enjoyed here. Everything is “EDO,” a leisure land where magnificent and beautiful architecture of the Edo period has been fantastically recreated to add color to your travel memories.
