The Kirifuri Plateau is a highland area within Nikko National Park. Kirifuri Kogen is a highland area within the Nikko National Park, with natural scenery such as “Kisuge-daira,” a highland area 1,300 to 1,600 meters above sea level that stretches halfway up Mount Akanagi, and “Kirifuri Waterfall,” one of the three most famous waterfalls in Nikko. These facilities make it possible to enjoy the area as a year-round resort.
Kisuge Plain
A treasure trove of alpine flora, this area boasts more than 100 types of flowers from spring to autumn, including witch hazel in late March, azaleas and dogtooth violets from April to June, and colonies of day lilies from mid-June to July.
The area is especially famous for its Nikkoukisuge (day-lily) colony, where about 260,000 yellow flowers bloom from late June to mid-July, creating a beautiful scene.
Nikko Kisuge-daira Park
Located on the slopes of Mt. Akanagi at an elevation of 1,200 meters, this facility is designed to serve as a base for environmental education and tourism.
The “Sky Corridor” is a walking trail that connects the rest house to the Komaruyama Observation Deck with a height difference of 240 meters, with 1,445 steps in between.
The hiking course is well maintained, allowing visitors to enjoy an easy stroll.
The area offers nature that can be enjoyed throughout the year, with colorful azaleas in spring, autumn leaves in fall, and snowshoeing in winter. There are many restaurants and lodging facilities in the area, as well as many leisure facilities for couples and families.
Approximately 25 minutes from JR Nikko Station or Tobu Nikko Station by bus bound for Kirifuri Kogen or Osasa Bokujo, and alight at Kirifuri Kogen bus stop.
